Why is it called "Paleo"?
The "Paleo Diet" is based on the belief that hunter-gatherers and cavemen had it right. "Paleo" is short for "Paleolithic", the time period in human history that measures from the first use of stone tools and other primitive technologies. But it's NOT an exercise in historical re-enactment, nor is it a restrictive diet. Eating "like a caveman" is a lifestyle that people adapt to as a way of managing their health and nutrition through clean, unprocessed foods and balanced nutrition.

Then why is it called a "diet"?
Any ascribed format of eating is technically a diet, and it can help you lose weight!

So it's basically low carb?
Nope! You'll be eating plenty of carbohydrates from fruit, vegetables, and nuts. The difference is that all your carbs will now be accompanied by other important factors like fiber and a variety of vitamins and minerals. Additionally, instead of refined sugars and processed ingredients, your carbohydrates will now be low-glycemic, preventing insulin spikes and maintaining even blood sugar levels. Even desserts on the PALETA Paleo | Gluten-Free Plan are perfectly balanced!

But don't Paleo people only eat bacon and coconut oil?
Actually, Paleo is (believe it or not!) a plant-based diet, with two thirds or more of your plate consisting of plant foods and only one third of animal foods.  At its core, the Paleo diet is a diet based on the consumption of a wide variety of nutrients, including fats! Meat consumption is enthusiastically endorsed because it can provide vital nutrients not obtainable from plant sources.  Variety is very important! A variety of foods supplies a variety of nutrients. That's why the PALETA Paleo | Gluten-Free Plan consists of a rainbow of sustainable fruits and vegetables and a wide selection of farm fresh meats.

How can I lose weight while eating carbs and fats?
Paleo results in weight loss because you are eating foods full of nutrients. It's often the lack of nutrients that triggers the feeling of hunger. When you eat the right balance of vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, and carbs, your body stays sated longer and you eat less over all! Fats and carbs get a bad rap (because processed food created body wreckers like trans fats and simple carbohydrates!), but they both serve an important purpose in healthy digestion and cellular metabolism. Why can't I eat beans or rice or corn? Aren't all those things healthy?
It sounds like a cop-out answer, but different diets work better for different bodies. Athletes and those who struggle with inflammation do well on a Paleo diet because it limits potentially allergenic or inflammatory foods and promotes optimum nutrient absorption. Legumes, grains, and corn can be allergenic and inflammatory to some persons. Is Paleo right for you? Are there other benefits to cutting out half of the Standard American Diet?
There are tons of proven health benefits! Get ready for a little science:
The all-plant carbohydrates on the Paleo diet are low-glycemic, meaning that they cause slow and limited rises in your blood sugar and insulin levels. Excessive insulin and blood sugar levels are known to promote a cluster of diseases called the Metabolic Syndrome, most of which cause weight gain. Additionally, the high intake of fruits and veggies means your body will be slightly alkaline and any pH balance related symptoms (like mineral absorption, or tinnitus) will improve.
